Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has taken steps to include contents that were deleted from the school textbooks by the central government, stated State General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Saturday.
The curriculum committee in Kerala has included the omitted portion regarding the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and topics related to India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The new textbook including these portions has been prepared.
“When classes resume after Onam break in September, the new textbooks will be distributed in schools. Students should learn our history, economics and science in the right perspective,” said Sivankutty.
The Centre had deleted all such contents and the Pinarayi Vijayan State Government had earlier promised that students will be taught India in its true spirit.
Meanwhile, there are reports that even the Gujarat riots have also found a place in the history textbook.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) had omitted many portions in textbooks from Class 6 to 12 as part of the syllabus rationalisation exercise. They include lessons on the ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the 2002 Gujarat riots, Mughal history, the Emergency, the Cold War, and the Naxalite Movement.
