Why Suhara cannot thank these Thodupuzha boys enough

Thodupuzha: Suhara Beevi (62) owes her life to six schoolboys whose presence of mind and courage saved her from drowning in the river. The boys, Abhijith Udayan (15), brother Akshay Udayan (13) , P J Ajin (17), Nidhin Madhu (12), brother Midhun Madhu (14) and P S Aswin (13) belonging to Kambipalam were bathing in the river near Olamattom Kambipalam after a game of football when they saw Suhara being swept down the middle of the river.

Wasting no time, Ajin, Abhijith and Akshay jumped into the waters and swam towards the helpless woman, a housewife belonging to Parakkal in Malankara, and pulled her to the safety of the river banks. The other boys too joined them in their rescue act. The youngsters alerted the residents of the nearby houses and the Fire and Rescue personnel soon arrived on the scene. Suhara, who had been carried by the river for nearly two-and-a-half kilometers, was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

Suhara said she had lost balance and plunged into the river while trying to recover her footwear which had fallen in the water after she had taken a bath.

The brave boys were showered with praises by the local people as well as firemen. Abhijith, Akshay and Aswin are students of Kanjiramattom Govt. High School, Ajin is a plus-one student at Purapuzha St. Sebastian’s HSS and Nidhin and Midhun study at Arakkulam St. Mary’s HSS.
