Producer Antony Perumbavoor has revealed that 'Drishyam 3' is in the works and the filmmaker Jeethu Joseph has already started the groundwork for the movie. He has discussed the idea with Mohanlal who plays Georgekutty and Aashirvad Cinemas, Antony said. The producer also reflected on the success of the original work and its sequel in a detailed post on Instagram.
“Drishyam, the 17th production of Aashirvad Cinemas, marked a turning point in our journey. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, it was the first collaboration between Jeethu, Lal sir, and me. Released on 19th December 2013, Drishyam was not just a film but a gift to Indian cinema as a whole.
The journey of Drishyam is something I take immense pride in, no matter where I go. It became the first Malayalam film to enter the 50 crore club, breaking language and cultural barriers to be remade into Tamil (Papanasam), Telugu (Drushyam), Kannada (Drishya), Hindi (Drishyam), Sinhalese (Withanage), and even Chinese (The Witness). Each remake stayed true to the original’s emotional depth and suspense, becoming a hit in its own way. Even today, the rights for Drishyam continue to be sought after, a testament to its universal appeal.
What made Drishyam unforgettable was Jeethu’s unparalleled storytelling, Lal sir’s brilliance in portraying Georgekutty, and the synergy of the entire team. There is no Malayali who doesn’t think about August 2nd or the gripping tale of Georgekutty’s family and the events that unfolded in that small town of Thodupuzha. Post Drishyam, the journey continued with Drishyam 2, which turned out to be an even bigger success. Today, the anticipation for Drishyam 3 is a topic of discussion not just in Kerala but globally. Jeethu is already working on the groundwork, and the thought process is being discussed by him, Lal sir, and Aashirvad Cinemas.
To Lal sir, Jeethu, Meena ma’am, and the entire team of Drishyam, thank you for being part of this extraordinary journey. This film is more than a milestone, it is a legacy that continues to grow, captivating audiences across the world (sic),” he wrote.
