Thrissur: In a scathing attack on his detractors, actor Dileep Sunday said that a conspiracy was hatched against him to put his image in bad light after the recent attack on a Malayalam actress.

Speaking at the audio launch of his upcoming movie Georgettan's Pooram, Dileep also targeted media and said that baseless allegations were levelled against him to link him as the person who orchestrated the attack on the actress.

"I am deeply pained by what happened to the actress, my colleague. But people used that as a cover to target me. They say the attack on her was a 'quotation' by me. It took time for me to realize that the 'quotation' was in fact against me. The attempt was to sow poisonous seeds in the minds of families and children. They were made to believe that I planned it all," Dileep said.

Using strong language as he addressed hundreds of people at the event, Dileep said that it is he who wants to know the truth the most than anyone else.

"Contrary to reports, no police officers have questioned me in the case. Standing before Lord Jagannath here, let me tell you - I am being punished over the last few weeks for a sin I did not have any involvement in, by no means. I only want to be truthful to my audience and I only want to talk to you," Dileep said amid loud cheers from his fans.

"What wrong have I done? I respect women the most. I have a 17-year-old daughter, I have my mother, my sister. My life is an open book before people of Kerala. I never knew I had so many enemies. I do charity work and that's from the money my audience have given me," Dileep added.

The actress, who has starred in Tamil and Telugu films besides Malayalam, was allegedly waylaid and molested inside her car by a group of men on the night of February 17 near Kochi.

Six persons, including prime accused Sunil Kumar aka 'Pulsar' Suni and his five accomplices, had been arrested in connection with the incident that created an uproar.
