Canada gave a fitting tribute to music Legend A R Rahman by naming a street in the city of Markham after him. Rahman responded to this unexpected recognition through a social media post.

"This is something I have never imagined in my life. I thank Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Councilors, Consulate General of India Apoorva Srivastava, and the entire people of Canada,' said AR Rahman.

"The name A R Rahman is not mine. Rahman means Merciful. It means the common God we all have. Merciful is the attribute of God in all of us. One can only be a servant of the merciful. So may that name bring peace, prosperity, happiness, and health to all who live in Canada. Maybe god bless you all. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my brothers and sisters in India for this love. I want to thank all those who wished for my well-being, all those creative people who have worked with me, and the legendary talents who inspired me to rise and celebrate 100 years of cinema. I am just a very small drop in this ocean," Rahman added.

He stated that this honour has given him immense responsibility to do much more and be inspiring and not get tired and not to retire yet. This will remind that I have more bridges to connect, he said before winding up his acceptance speech.
