The sweltering heat is getting under the skin of everyone. Nutritionists are screaming at the top of their lungs to drink more fluids to keep the body hydrated and stay cool in the summer. Many refreshing drinks are doing the rounds in the market to keep the heat at bay but one drink that stands out for its taste and ingredients is ‘chilli burthuqal’ . Instagram page ‘Nihal Epicure’ presents this invigorating drink that had proved its worth years ago and conquered the hearts of people in Kottakal in Malappuram district.

The tasty ‘chilli burthuqal’ has been quenching the thirst much before the now sought-after ‘kulukki sarbat’ had hit the scene. Scores of people jostle for space to get a glass of ‘chilli burthuqal’ from a push cart near the Kottakal junction.

As the name suggests, the drink, which boasts of a unique masala mix, is prepared following a special recipe. The moderate spiciness of the chillies, soda, ‘nannari sarbat’, lime juice and orange juice make ‘chilli burthuqal’ the chosen one. The lovers of this wonderful drink have the opinion that everyone should taste this beverage at least once.

One could gulp down ‘chilli burthuqal’ from evening to 12 midnight. Besides ‘chilli burthuqal’, there are many ‘sarbats’ that could blow your mind away. The push cart also offers mango, gooseberry and carrot in brine and herbal coffee (chukku kaapi).
