Vattalmulaku chammanthi

Spicy chutney not only excites our taste buds but also the sweet memories of hot lunch packed in banana leaf, to school. The delicious aroma of rice, chutney, pickle, and mezhukkupuratti (vegetables fried in coconut oil) wafting from the banana leaf packet would fill the mouth with water. Here is a traditional recipe of roasted dried chilli chutney.

Ingredients
8 dried chillies
1/4 cup shallots
1 tsp tamarind soaked in water
2 tsp coconut oil
Salt as required

Preparation
Heat oil in a pan
Fry the dried chillies
In a blender, add fried dry chillies, soaked tamarind, and salt as required
Crush gently
Add shallots and crush again
Serve the ground mixture in a bowl
Add coconut oil as required
Mix well
This chutney tastes best with dosa, idly or rice.
