Originally an Egyptian dessert Om Ali or Umm Ali, which translates to “Ali’s Mother”, has a bizarre history behind its origin. It is said that the dish, which resembles bread pudding, was created in the 16th century by Om Ali, the first wife of the Sultan Ezz El Din Aybek, to celebrate the death of her husband's second wife Shajarat Al-Durr. The legend says that al-Durr forced Om Ali's husband to divorce her.
The dish under went many changes in terms of taste and mix and developed variants on the way. Often Om Ali is topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. It is one of the sweetest pastries of Arabia.

Ingredients
5 croissants
1 litre milk
100 gm sugar
100 ml condensed milk
100 ml fresh cream
Cashew nuts
Raisins
Almonds
Pista
Preparation
Add in sugar, condensed milk and fresh cream to boiling milk.
Keep stirring till it thickens to half the quantity.
Cut croissants into bits and keep aside.
Add cashew nuts, raisins, almonds and pistachios to the croissants.
Pour in the milk mix, sprinkle sugar on top and bake at 200 degrees for 15 minutes.
