Kerala is experiencing more hot and humid days as temperatures soar across the state. The IMD has issued a three-day warning for hot and humid conditions. It has also predicted light to moderate rainfall on March 27 and 28, but also says the respite from rain won't last long. At this time, caring for your eyes becomes more important than ever. Wear sunglasses
Wear sunglasses whenever possible to protect your eyes from long-term ultraviolet (UV) damage, which can lead to conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Opt for sunglasses that offer 100 per cent UVA and UVB protection or are labelled `UV 400.' Darker lenses do not necessarily provide better protection. To ensure proper eye safety, it is important to use sunglasses with an effective UV coating.

Eyes also need hydration
The intense outdoor heat, combined with air-conditioned indoor environments, can increase dryness in the eyes. If you experience burning, itching, or a persistent feeling of dryness, stay well hydrated by drinking enough water and using lubricating eye drops as prescribed by a doctor.

Avoid eye irritation while swimming
Chemicals in swimming pools can cause eye irritation and increase the risk of infection. Therefore, wear waterproof swimming goggles to prevent water from entering the eyes. Those who use contact lenses should remove them before swimming.
