• Lighting
Lighting plays a vital role in highlighting the unique features of a house. From the exterior lights and the landscape lighting to the beautiful interior light fittings, it enhances the overall look of the house. The lighting should be arranged in a way which makes the entire house visible from the outside. Wall washers which spread light from the bottom towards the top are the latest trend. It must be noted that the yard lighting is significant till 9 in the evening, after which the lighting on the building must be given prominence. The lamp shades used in the interiors must match the general theme of the house.
• Paint
Painting the exterior walls predominantly with lighter shades and using darker shades for highlighting is the latest trend. White, green, blue and light yellow are the trendiest shades that would look amazing on the exteriors. A putty finish is added before painting the exterior walls in desired colors. Though this method is a bit expensive, it gives a finished and charming look to the house.
• Pavement
The significance of the pavement begins right from where one enters the gate from the road. It should perfectly complement the design of the landscape and the theme of the house. Concrete tiles and natural stones are often used on the pavements. The texture, colour, design and pattern should be given importance while choosing the right kind of material to be paved. The pavement should match the flooring on the car porch. You could even design it in contrasting themes by separating these areas using strips. It should also go with the design of the gate and the pillars. Instead of paving the entire front yard with tiles, you could layer it alternatively with the lawns. A walkway through the middle of the lush green meadows or the beautiful landscaping would look spectacular. Service pavement which leads to the kitchen too is arranged in some houses these days.
• Garden accessories
Eye-catching garden accessories can be used in both big and small gardens. Statues, small rock gardens and unique flower pots are some of the accessories that could find spots in your beautiful garden. Materials made in ferro cement, boundary stones, ceramic and terracotta are widely used to decorate the gardens. It must, however, be noted that the garden accessories must match the design and the theme of the house.
• Well
If the position of the well is in front of the house, then it must be designed as part of the landscaping. The position and the design of the well must not block the beautiful view of the house. The theme of the house should be continued in the design of the well as well. A traditional well, designed using laterite stones and wood, would look amazing in front of a house which features the traditional architectural style. The outer wall designed in the shape of an uruli (traditional vessel) would look spectacular in the landscape of a traditional house. Meanwhile, the well should look simple in a contemporary style house. However, it could be made attractive using claddings. Designing the outer walls of the well in the shape of a flower pot or other objects is quite common these days. However, it should be done only if such designs complement the general theme and look of the exteriors. Over decorating the well may diminish the significance of the stylish exteriors of the house, as the eyes would be instantly drawn to the well. It is better not to experiment too much with the look of the well if the plot is small.
