Jaseer and Sona built their dream abode on a small 4 cents plot in Mattacherry. Their house, which they named ‘Adam’s Paradise’, is indeed a quaint little heaven of incredible comfort and amazing facilities. The couple decided to name their house that stands elegantly in a rectangular plot, after their son. The elevation doesn’t feature any design gimmicks for the sake of looks. The family had given priority to the facilities inside the house.
The elegance of the elevation clearly reflects the impeccable features in the interiors. This house looks like a three storied one from outside. The front yard is just spacious enough to park a car. The rest of the area is paved with waving tiles and beautiful landscaping.
The quaint sit out is cosy. A shoe rack cum sitting arrangement could be seen on the left side. The entrance door has a simple form without any intricate designs works or decorative carvings. The entrance door, meanwhile, opens to the foyer.
The beautiful courtyard could be called the soul of the house. A curio shelf is installed as a visual barrier for the stair area to ensure privacy. This shelf is furnished using metal and marine ply. The space beneath the stairway is beautified with aesthetically designed landscaping where various indoor plants, bamboos and illi shrubs (dendrocalamus strictus) are grown.
The foyer leads to the living room. An elegant couch, TV unit and a coffee table are the minimal furnishing here. The living room stands out from the rest of the areas in this house. Interestingly, the unique charm of the courtyard is reflected in the entire house. One has to cross this space of serene elegance to reach any other part of the house.
The courtyard is designed to push out the warm air. This area is in triple height. Besides, a concrete slab is cut in circular shape and then secured with glass to be installed on the ceiling here. The jail work on both the sides brings lots of natural sun shine and cool breeze into the house. A glass overlap too is added here with a gap of 1 centimetre. This helps in pushing out the warm air. A water body and sitting spaces too are arranged in the courtyard. The presence of greenery truly adds an enchanting charm to the interiors of this house.
A classy dining table and a hanging light complete the dining area. The open kitchen is closer to this area. One could easily catch a view of the curio shelf from the living area. The modular kitchen, meanwhile, has lots of ‘C’ shaped cupboards for storage. The kitchen is on one side of the dining area while the parents’ bedroom is on the other.
There is a prayer room on the first landing of the stairway. Meanwhile, two bedrooms and a play area have been arranged in the second landing. The master bedroom is just a few a stairs above this level. The bedrooms are designed giving prime importance to excellent ventilation. One could enter the balcony space from here.
The architect managed to accommodate all these incredible facilities through excellent space planning and layout. Exposed concrete walls and headboards and the custom made furniture play vital role in enhancing the spectacular look of the interiors. Architect Manaf has shown the owner a walk through video of the interiors during the planning phase itself. He is happy and proud that he could design the perfect abode just as the family had imagined.
