Sreejesh’s brand new house at Anayadi in Kollam, Kerala is the perfect model for a comfortable house with all the required amenities that suit a middle-class family. The family wanted a single-storey house as it is easy to maintain and also to keep the family relations warm. Interestingly, there is provision to construct an additional floor, if required, in the future.

The front roof is sloped and has been paved with roofing tiles. The entrance area to the terrace has been designed amazingly, granting a chic look to the elevation. The front yard is paved with natural stones and grass in alternate layers. Meanwhile, the aesthetically done landscape and garden complement the elevation.

Designed in 1800 sqft, this splendid abode has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, courtyard, kitchen with a work area and three bedrooms.

The entrance door opens to the elegantly furnished formal living area. A TV unit has been arranged here. A curio shelf is what separates this area from the rest of the interiors.

The dining area has been arranged as part of the spacious open hall. Interestingly, the dining area, courtyard and kitchen are connected and excellently communicate with each other. The courtyard with the skylight ceiling is the highlight of the interiors. The walls of this area are decorated with tiles that look like attractive wallpapers. Meanwhile, the floor has been paved with shiny pebbles. The indoor plants bring in a hint of pleasant greenery. A hanging chair made in cane completes the courtyard area.

The interior walls don lighter shades of hues that are extremely comfortable to the eyes. The false ceiling in minimal white theme is highlighted with classy LED light fittings.

The dining table set and chairs are custom-made in teak wood and they add opulence to the open hall. A crockery shelf too has been added as part of the dining area.

Besides the main courtyard, there is a mini courtyard just beside the dining space. The walls here are highlighted with brick cladding. This ensures that the interiors are illuminated with natural light during the day.

The open kitchen has cabinets done in marine ply with a laminate finish. The countertop, meanwhile, has been paved with nano white. A counter opens to the dining area to ensure better communication between the two spaces. Besides the main kitchen, there is a working kitchen too.

Interestingly, the doors of the bedrooms are made in acacia wood and have teak wood texture painted on them. The bedrooms are simple yet elegant. There have attached bathrooms and in–built wardrobes for storage in these rooms.

The structure of this amazing abode was constructed on a budget of Rs 29 lakh and an additional Rs 7 lakh was spent for the interiors. The owner says that he is proud that he could build his dream dwelling on a reasonable budget without breaking the bank. Moreover, he wasn’t bothered by the skyrocketing prices of the construction materials as the construction was completed before the pandemic outbreak. The family, meanwhile, vouches for the great warmth and comfort that a single-storey house provides.
