This is the dream home of Manoj and Shruthi and it is named Karthika. The house in Karipuzha, Mavelikara, on 33 cents, is built in a modern, contemporary style. Instead of focusing on elevation, the design is a confluence of various spaces, creating a unique layout. Upon opening the gate, the courtyard welcomes you with lush greenery.

The base colour theme of the house is a terracotta-cement texture finish. From each angle, the house offers distinct views and it can easily be called a ‘house with many faces.’

The ground floor includes formal living, family living, dining, kitchen, work area, two bedrooms with attached bathrooms, and two courtyards. The upper floor has two bedrooms with attached bathrooms as well. There are three buffer zones in the house's design: an open courtyard and public space leading to a semi-public space which includes the sit-out and living areas, and private spaces that encompass the bedrooms.

The interior of the house is designed in a white theme. The doors, windows, and beams made from reclaimed old wooden posts add a touch of antiquity. The wood was chosen for its quality and cost-effectiveness. The main door leads directly into a beautifully arranged living space. Part of the living room wall has been converted into a family photo gallery, as per the homeowner’s preferences. The ceiling height in the living area has been increased beyond the standard, adding a sense of spaciousness. A water body is also set up here, creating a buffer zone rich in breeze, light, and greenery, designed to enhance the ambiance.

From the formal living area, the transition to the dining and family living areas is seamless. This is part of the open hall. Adjacent to the dining space is the TV unit and a prayer space.

The family living area features a double-height ceiling, giving it a spacious and airy feel. Here, the ceiling is made of perforated concrete, serving the dual purpose of adding aesthetic appeal and filtering sunlight, creating a soft, diffused light inside. The design of the four bedrooms follows a simple yet elegant theme, complete with attached wardrobes and dressing spaces. The master bedroom on the ground floor is beautifully complemented by an adjacent side courtyard.

The kitchen is designed to be functional and simple, with everything within easy reach. It also includes a dedicated work area and a smokeless stove. Overall, the presence of natural light, excellent cross-ventilation, and the surrounding greenery make every moment spent in the house delightful.
