The house of expatriate Iqbal, located in Taliparamba, Kannur, is designed in a contemporary style with a box-shaped elevation. The exterior feature of interest is a jali screen made by CNC cutting on HPL sheets. The courtyard includes a double-height glass window, which adds a distinct separation.

The house features a sit-out, formal living room, family living room, dining area, courtyard, kitchen, work area, and three bedrooms with attached bathrooms on the ground floor. The upper floor has two bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a balcony. The total area of the house is 4,000 square feet, showcasing a variety of design elements that contribute to its uniqueness. Notably, the house has two sit-outs, one leading to the formal living area and the other adjacent to the family living. The walls are finished in cement texture, adding to the aesthetic appeal of the interior spaces.

The house is designed in a semi-open approach, ensuring privacy and an open feel. The elegance in furnishing is a highlight of the interior, with polished granite used in common areas. The use of teak in furniture and panelling further elevates the sophistication. A fluted glass semi-partition is used to obscure the view from the formal living area to the dining hall, adding an element of privacy. The formal living area is also equipped with a TV unit, integrating functionality with design elegance.

There is a unique wall hanging in this house. The family living area's wall has a framed T-shirt signed by the homeowner’s colleagues. The dining area, finished with a cement texture and featuring a double-height wall, exudes spaciousness. Adjacent to the dining hall is a double-height courtyard, which, due to its side glass wall and double-height design, allows an abundance of natural light to flood in. This enhances the spatial look and fills the area with natural brightness.

The design highlight of the staircase is in its intricate work on the metal frame. The steps are adorned with imported granite, contributing to the luxurious finish. The kitchen is designed in a modern island layout, with lacquered glass finishing on the cabinets. The countertops too are graced with granite, seamlessly integrating with the overall design. Additionally, the inclusion of a wooden bench-and-desk area carves out a cosy breakfast space.

The bedrooms are set in a simple but beautiful mode. Windows are incorporated to ensure the flow of natural light. An upper bedroom has been transformed into a study space and there are little to no dead spaces. The exterior avoids bold colours and interiors are tastefully decorated. The balanced use of colour and strategic design elements inside create a pleasant and inviting atmosphere which distinguishes the home with its subtle elegance.
