Harison who runs a successful business in Thiruvananthapuram is also a notable social worker. So, when he built his brand-new house at Kariavattom, Harison wanted separate areas for family gatherings and for receiving visitors and official meetings too. Meanwhile, his main demand was that the interiors should have enough privacy so that he would be able to enjoy warm moments with his family.

The spaces have been designed to suit the 12-cent plot that has an uneven layout. The elevation features chic contemporary style without any overdose of hues or textures. The car porch has been arranged in such a way that it doesn’t disrupt the symmetry of the elevation. Interestingly, an open sitting area is set up above the car porch.

Designed in 4700 sqft, this contemporary mansion has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, courtyard, kitchen with a work area and two bedrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there are two more bedrooms, living area and a balcony too on the upper floor.

Ample supply of cool breeze and natural light, vibrant green spots and spacious interiors are the main factors that were considered while designing the house. The common spaces are open and vast and are visually connected too. There are little kids in the family. So, the open areas were preferred by the family to ensure their safety. Now, it is easier for the elders to keep an eye on the children when they are running around. Moreover, these open spaces are perfect for family gatherings.

Interestingly, natural wood has been generously used for furnishing the interiors. The family believes that nothing could beat the grand elegance of beautiful timberworks. The walls mostly don the serene grace of white hue rather than the bright colours that may stress the eye.

The formal living area is designed a few feet below the floor level. Here, the aquarium is the most attractive feature.

Meanwhile, the family vows that the courtyard is their favourite spot in the house. A folding glass door in the family living and dining areas opens to the courtyard. Moreover, natural wind and sunshine enter the house if this folding glass door is opened.

Balcony too is a preferred spot which boasts amazing timber works. Vines are grown on the polycarbonate roofing sheet here. Soon, this roof will turn into a charming canopy of greenery. The staircase is simple and is done in metal and wooden finish. The modern kitchen has all the facilities and the cabinets here are built in sturdy teak wood.

The bedrooms are designed to receive lots of natural air and light. Timber has been used for furnishing the bedrooms too. Besides attached bathrooms, there are in-built wardrobes too. Harison and his family cannot hide their happiness as they speak about their dream dwelling.
