Joffin’s contemporary home at Puthenvelikkara in Ernakulam, Kerala, has been luring onlookers with its chic flat box elevation. Even though the elevation looks simple and minimal the interiors are lavishly furnished. Interestingly, the interiors spring up quite a surprise with its luxurious designer elements and well-defined spaces.
The structure that stands in a 15-cent plot is built by leaving enough space in the front. The landscape is beautifully designed to complement the elevation of the house. Meanwhile, the driveway is paved with alternate layers of natural stones and artificial grass. Verdant lawns with buffalo grass and a GI sitting area too are part of the landscape. The car porch is built separately, away from the structure, in order to highlight the contemporary designer patterns of the elevation. The porch has been built by paving roofing sheets on GI square tubes.
Designed in 2200 sq ft, the fabulous abode has a sit-out, formal living area, dining space, kitchen with a work area, two bedrooms, bathrooms, and swimming pool on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there is a living area, bedroom, and two balconies on the upper floor.
The custom-made furniture pieces match the general theme of the house. Even though lighter shades have been mostly used in the interiors, a few walls are highlighted with brighter colours.
The dining area is in the centre of the house. A simple six-seater dining table has been arranged here. A wall here is highlighted to be used as a serving counter. Besides, a TV unit too could be installed here.
The sliding door in the dining area opens to the swimming pool. The beautiful view of the pool area could be enjoyed from the dining space through the full-length glass window-cum-door.
Meanwhile, the staircase built in MS frame has sturdy teakwood planks as steps. The wash area is arranged beneath the staircase to make interiors space-efficient. The wall on the first landing of the staircase too has a full-length window that lets in natural sunshine.
The open kitchen is close to the dining area. A quaint breakfast counter and high chairs are arranged at the kitchen entrance.
The three bedrooms are designed with unique themes. The head side walls are decorated with attractive wallpapers. Interestingly, the kids’ bedroom has been decorated quite artistically and has bunk beds, wallpapers, and storage. All the bedrooms have attached bathrooms, in-built wardrobes, and separate dressing spaces.
The cabinets in the kitchen are done in marine ply with laminate finish. Meanwhile, Korean stone has been paved on the countertop. The breakfast counter in the centre grants the kitchen the utility and efficiency of a modern island kitchen.
The house and the landscape look incredibly beautiful when the golden highlighter lamps are switched on at night. The family says they feel proud when their friends and relatives compliment them for building such a splendid house.
