Ajeesh’s brand-new house at Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam, Kerala, proves that with meticulous planning and smart designing, fabulous homes could be built even on difficult terrain. The uneven layout of the 10-cent plot was quite challenging for the architect. The family didn’t believe that they could build their dream abode there. However, these challenges were overcome, quite seamlessly, with excellent site planning.
The multi-layered roof is what makes the elevation stand out. Roofing tiles have been paved on the GI truss roof. Meanwhile, a layer of ceiling tiles too has been added beneath the roof. The wall of the car porch is highlighted with laterite stones to grant a rustic charm. The beautiful terracotta jali beside the porch looks cohesive as it perfectly complements the elevation.
The splendid abode in 3250 sqft has a car porch, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with a work area, two bedrooms, bathrooms and a prayer area on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there is a study space, living area, balcony, two bedrooms and an open terrace on the upper floor.
The family focussed on making the interiors warm and cosy, more than spending too much money on decorating the elevation. The interiors are designed in a semi-open style to ensure visual connectivity between the spaces. The well-furnished family living area and the dining area too are part of the spacious hall.
The furniture pieces that adorn the interiors are custom-made to suit the theme of the house. The dining table with a nano-white top looks sleek and shiny. Meanwhile, the chairs with blue upholstery add a pop of colour here. The same colour theme has been followed in the family living area too. The family living area with a double-height ceiling looks really spacious. The arch-shaped TV unit here is highlighted with natural stone cladding.
Interestingly, one could watch TV from the dining area too. The sliding glass door here opens to the beautiful patio. The wash area is arranged close to the kitchen entrance. The exposed brick cladding on the wall here looks amazing.The upper living area is just beside the landing of the staircase. An arch shaped TV unit has been installed here as well.
A quaint study space is separated in the passage to make interiors space efficient. A breakfast counter and high chairs are arranged in the kitchen. Meanwhile, the cabinets in the kitchen are done in veneer with PU paint finish. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen.
The bedrooms are elegantly designed to exude resort-like ambience. In fact, these bedrooms are the most vividly designed spaces in the house. The unique texture paint and panelling on the head side walls are extremely attractive. Moreover, the spacious bedrooms have attached bathrooms, an in-built wardrobe as well as separate dressing areas. The open terrace is spacious enough to host small gatherings or parties. The interiors are beautifully furnished that it hardly feels like the house has been built on an uneven plot.
