Note these food items to keep your heart healthy

The heart is an organ in the body that works non-stop through out the life. It is one of the most important organs in the human body and it has to remain healthy to pump blood as well as transport oxygen to all parts. The condition of the heart depends on our food habits and we need to take care of the diet for it to function properly.

If we follow unhealthy food habits, heart diseases may develop. A major cause of heart attack is the block formed in the coronary arteries. Such blocks are formed due to the deposit of fats. Accumulation of fats can be checked with proper food habits and regular exercise.

Salmon fish which is rich in omega 3 fatty acids is good for the heart. The American Heart Association suggests including salmon fish in the diet two times a week for a healthy heart. This will help prevent heart disease due to atherosclerosis and arrhythmia.

Yogurt is also beneficial to the heart. It is good for healthy gums too. Rich in probiotics, yogurt enables digestion and improves the immunity.

Another item that keeps heart healthy is walnut. Studies have proved that a person taking five ounce of walnuts a week has 50 % less chance of suffering from heart disease. This will lead to removal of ‘bad’ cholesterol and an increase in the level of ‘good’ cholesterol.

Walnut is also rich in omega 3 fatty acids. If walnuts are not available, almonds, flax seeds or cashew nuts can be preferred. Eating oatmeal is also a good option. The fibres in this food remove the toxins in our body.
