Gadget-induced 'text neck syndrome' and how to cure it

Medical experts have observed that spinal bent has increased among the new generation. Constant use of mobile phones, lap tops and desk tops could be a major reason for this condition. From the mother’s womb to the school, office and in vehicles, we sit with our backs bent or slumped. Even the household chores like cooking, cleaning and washing are done by bending the back or the whole body.

Most people use pillows while sleeping, which will further bend the neck and head. The weight of the school bag or the laptop bag also plays a role in it. Adolescent girls tend to push their neck and shoulders forward and bend a bit when they become conscious of their developing breasts. Text neck syndrome is a modern age term to describe repeated stress injury and pain in the neck resulting from excessive texting on hand held devices. Students leaning on to their elbows that rest on the desk too may suffer from this syndrome or abnormal posture.

Those who suffer from this syndrome wouldn’t have any pain during the initial stages. So, most people tend to ignore it. However, they would appear older and shorter than their actual height when looked from the sides. Besides, they would be disappointed that many stylish dresses that they wish to wear wouldn’t suit them. The ear should be right above the shoulder when watched from the sides. However, when you look at a person suffering from text neck syndrome from the side, their ear would appear in front of the shoulder. There are many exercises that could help prevent or improve the text neck syndrome even if you are a student or a professional who is required to spent hours in front of the mobile phones or lap tops.
