Colombo: Sri Lanka's Meteorology Department on Monday issued a severe heat advisory for several districts in the island nation from August 27 to September 7.
In a statement, the department said the worst affected areas where the sun will be positioned directly above are Nainativu, Allaipiddy, Mandaitivu, Kilali, Pallai and Maruthadikulam, in northern Sri Lanka.
"General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions and avoid going out in the heat," the department was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.
Public is advised to "stay hydrated and be in the shade as much as possible", the department added.
The Disaster Management Centre said water bowsers would be dispatched to the worst affected areas.
