A dentist in Kerala has found a place in the International Book of Records by painting the grand spectacle of Thrissur Pooram on a tiny canvas.
Dr Swismin Gems, a self-taught artist, won the record for the 'smallest painting of Thrissur Pooram' on September 22, 2021. The canvas of her painting was just 2cm wide and 3cm long.
“I have been painting since childhood, daddy used to draw well. I learned by observing him” says Swismin.
The previous record for the same was held by Anoop S from Kollam, who made the painting on 4.5cm X 3.5cm canvas.
When they stumbled upon Anoop's record, it was her sister, Smiwin Gems who inspired Swismin to take up the challenge.
Smiwin knew her sister, for whom making miniature paintings is a hobby, could do it better and smaller.
It took her just an hour for the 27-year-old dentist to depict the 'Kudamattam' within the small confines using watercolours. Watch Swismin in action:
