L.B.S College of Engineering, Kasaragod, marked the International Women's Day with a few programmes held on and off the campus on Friday.

Shilpa Dyavaiah, IPS, who is the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), of the Kasaragod district, flagged off a run for menstrual awareness. She also attended a talk show called My Story, a college event modelled on the renowned TED Talks in which successful personalities share their stories.

Dyavaiah is the first women IPS officer to be stationed in Kasaragod district. She is also an electronics engineer and MBA graduate who later became an IPS officer.

Dyavaiah shared her life story with the audience and took part in an interactive session with students at the amphitheatre in the administrative block. She urged the budding engineers to pursue their goals and keep on trying until they secure them.

The talk featuring the IPS officer was the second since the My Story was launched recently.

The National Service Scheme unit at the college celebrated Women's Day by organising the run. It was held in association with the JCI, Kasaragod. (Junior Chamber International or JCI is a global NGO.) The LBS students took part in the run from the college to Povval.

Principal Dr.Mohammed Shekoor T was the chief guest of the programme which had commenced with a prayer followed by a welcome speech by Manju.V, the NSS programme officer (683 unit). Asha Selvaraj, JCI chairperson, delivered the presidential speech and the vote of thanks was given by JCI secretary Nisha Padmanabhan.

Shekoor gifted Dyavaiah a prize as a token of gratitude. The programmed ended after Dyavaiah' speech.
