RSS plots apolitical move to make Mohanlal enter poll fray
The plan to make Mohanlal contest for the Janakeeya Munnani is inspired by the Sabarimala stir dubbed Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam organised by the Sabarimala Karma Samithy.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has launched a new move to field actor Mohanlal from the Thiruvananthapuram seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The right-wing organisation is reportedly engaged in constituting a ‘Janakeeya Munnani’ (People’s Front) committee comprising noted personalities and invite Mohanlal to contest under its banner.

RSS has initiated a similar move for Thrissur and Pathanamthitta constituencies also. Popular figures in society could be the candidates here. No BJP leader or member would be part of the Janakeeya Munnani.

The plan to make Mohanlal contest for the Janakeeya Munnani is inspired by the Sabarimala stir dubbed Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam organised by the Sabarimala Karma Samithy. It may be recalled that no BJP leader were allowed on the stage of the Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam programme and people from different political backgrounds had attended their agitation that rocked Kerala last year.

RSS calculates that Janakeeya Munnani, which includes celebrities like film director Priyadarshan and producer Suresh Kumar, can attract votes from people belonging to all religions. Moreover, it feels that Mohanlal would express no reluctance to represent an apolitical organisation despite its close links to BJP.

The move is the brainchild of a section of the RSS leadership, which includes Pajnavahak national coordinator J Nandakumar. It is learnt that top leaders – even the prime minister – could be urged to persuade Mohanlal to enter the fray.

Many leading personalities in Thiruvananthapuram city have already been approached by the RSS to join the Janakeeya Munnani committee. Some top members of the Christian clergy are among them.

A parallel experiment is planned at Thrissur and Palakkad also, where the BJP believes it has a good chance of winning in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, the RSS has already appointed the election in-charge for each constituency. The plan will be replicated in the local body and Assembly polls too if it turns out to be successful in the Lok Sabha elections.
