Gujarat: Three persons were killed and two others rescued, following the collapse of a portion of a three-storey building in Veraval city of Gujarat's Gir Somnath district in the early hours of Monday.

The incident happened around 1.30 am at a residential building in the Kharwawad locality of Veraval, according to Inspector HR Goswami. Locals say that the building was nearly 80 years old and had been in a dilapidated condition for a long time.

A motorbike rider passing through the area was also killed, as he was crushed under the rubble and succumbed to the injuries on the spot, Goswami said. The other two deceased included a woman and her daughter, who were residents of the building, he said.

After being alerted, firefighters, police, civic personnel and locals began the rescue operations, which lasted until 5 am, the official reported. Three bodies were pulled out from the rubble, while two people were rescued. The deceased have been identified as Dinesh Jungi (34), Devkiben Suyani (65) and her daughter Jashoda (35), he said. Suyani's husband and another woman were rescued and rushed to a hospital for treatment, according to police.
