Palakkad: A 'flood' sculpture and several plaques will be erected in Palakkad city to record the unprecedented deluge that the area has survived. The sculpture will be set up in the municipal office premises and will have details on the floods for the posterity's information.

The municipal council's steering committee has agreed on the plan and will present it for the council's approval.

The committee decided on erecting plaques that will mark high-flood level, among other things.

Data on the 1924 deluge are not available even in historic documents. Indications are that Palakkad was not affected by that flood.

The state government had proposed that civic bodies should install plaques on the flood. Palakkad will install them on the main bridges, buildings, and main junctions that were inundated.

It has been decided that these should never be removed, even during a revamp. The erections will also save crucial details on the number of people saved in the deluge.

Municipal chairperson Prameela Sasidharan presided over the meeting.
