Kochi: A 22-year-old youth was found dead inside a flat near the Infopark at Kakkanad here on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Malappuram-native Sajeev Krishnan. The body, wrapped up in a bedsheet, was shoved into the opening of a garbage chute.

The Infopark police suspect it to be a case of murder.

Sajeev's roommate, Arshad, a native of Kozhikode, who was absconding was nabbed by the police from Kasaragod on Wednesday. The police had intensified the search for the accused at his home in Payyoli, Kozhikode, and in his relatives' houses.

Police also suspected that Arshad had Sajeev's mobile phone. Till Tuesday afternoon, his friends were receiving text messages from the deceased's phone.

Sajeev lived in a flat on the 16th floor of Oxoniya apartments in Kakkanad's Edachira with four other friends.

The incident came to light when three of his roommates returned home from a trip. Sajeev's friends contacted the caretaker of the flat as he was not responding to their calls. He was found dead after they inspected the flat.

The body, which was wrapped in a bedsheet and blanket, was found shoved into the garbage chute on the balcony of their apartment. There were deep cuts on his head and body.

His mortal remains will be released to his family after the autopsy on Wednesday.

Sajeev, who hailed from Vandoor in Malappuram, was the son of Ramakrishnan and Jisha. He has a brother Rajeev Krishnan.
