Thiruvananthapuram: The Regulatory Commission has issued an order, extending the existing power tariffs in the state till June 30.

The validity of the tariffs, that were hiked last June, was set to expire on March 31. The electricity board had approached the Regulatory Commission, seeking a further hike in the tariff. But the Commission has not yet conducted a hearing over this and taken a decision.

If the Commission does not arrive on a decision before June 30, the prevailing tariffs will have to be extended again.

The demands of the board to impose a fuel surcharge of 30 paise per unit for the additional power purchased from outside during July to September last year, and 14 paise per unit from October till December are currently under the consideration of the Regulatory Commission. Earlier, the Commission had given permission to levy a surcharge of 9 paise per unit for the power purchased from last April till June.
