Thiruvananthapuram: Three girls residing at the government-run Sree Chitra Home attempted to kill themselves by consuming an excessive quantity of tablets on Monday. The trio said that they were emotionally distressed due to bullying by fellow residents.

Two of the girls were admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, while the third was taken to the SAT Hospital. The girls, reportedly aged 16, 15 and 12, are currently in stable condition. “It was teasing among the girls, not bullying. They were upset because they were unable to go home,” the superintendent of Sree Chitra Home told the media.

The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has reportedly initiated an inquiry into the incident.
