16-year-old girl raped in Wayanad, two arrested

Wayanad: The police have arrested two persons for allegedlyraping a minor girl at Thalappuzha here on Wednesday. The arrested are Kappikuzhiyil Ashique (25) and Jayarajan (25), natives of Mallimala near Thalappuzha.
According to the police, Ashique went to the house of the girl, a 16-year-old school student, when her parents were away, and forcibly took her to the firm run by Jayarajan in Mananthavady in a vehicle. When the girl refused to go with him, Ashique allegedly beat her and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not obey his orders.
The girl, in her statement to the police, said that the duo forced her to consume liquor and raped her.
The incident came to light when the girl arrived late to class and her teacher inquired about the delay. The teacher also noticed that the girl was not behaving normally while attending the class.
The police have slapped the accused with relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) and sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Both of them were produced at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Mananthavadi and have been remanded to judicial custody.
