A Class 11 student died following a suspected snake bite in Arattuthara, Mananthavady, Wayanad district, on Wednesday. The deceased, Vaiga (16), was a native of Kavukunnu, Valliyoorkavu.

She was initially admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Mananthavady, after experiencing uneasiness. The presence of snake venom was confirmed through a series of blood tests. Although antivenom was administered, her condition deteriorated by evening. For advanced treatment, she was shifted to WIMS Medical College Hospital, Meppadi.

Neither Vaiga nor her family members were aware that she had been bitten by a snake. The bite marks on her leg were noticed only after she was brought to the hospital in Mananthavady, where she had presented symptoms such as nausea and discomfort. Vaiga is survived by her father Vinod, mother Vineetha, and sister Krishnapriya.
