Two Class 10 students of Sarvodaya School, Nalanchira, and a biker were injured after the two-wheeler he was driving veered off the road and crashed into the students walking on the footpath at Nalanchira on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 8 am.
According to police, the biker, an Infosys employee, was returning home from work when he reportedly dozed off while riding. "He lost control and rammed into the students," a police officer told Onmanorama.
CCTV footage from a nearby shop shows the girls walking on the footpath after returning from tuition, moments before the bike swerved into them. One girl was hit directly, while the other was thrown nearly five metres away. The rider also fell at the spot.
Locals rushed all three to a nearby private hospital. One student fractured her jaw, while the other lost several teeth. The biker suffered rib injuries.
Mannanthala Police have launched an investigation and will register a case after recording the statements of the students.
