Lakkidi: M Radhakrishnan MP has written to central railway minister Ashwani Vaishnaw urging to build a railway overbridge in Lakkidi connecting Palakkad and Thrissur districts. The MP reminds in the letter that Lakkidi is the only level cross that remains operational in the 44 kilometre stretch in the Shorannur – Palakkad railway line area.
This deposit level cross near the Lakkidi yard is part of the Palakkad division. The MP stated that it was inevitable to shut down the Lakkidi level cross and start the construction of the ROB as all the level crosses between Shorannur and Palakkad will be closed down by 2026. He noted in the letter that the Lakkidi level cross will pose a challenge to the operational efficiency and safety while efforts are underway to increase the line speed to 130 – 160 kilometres between Shorannur and Pothannur. Besides, thousands of commuters use this way on a daily basis and the vehicles and ambulances to the Pambadi Ivarmadam cemetery often gets stuck at the level cross when the gate is closed.
Meanwhile, the MP said that the minister had promised to close down all the railway crossings in the constituency and to positively consider his demands.
