The Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Special Court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 50 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of ₹35,000. The verdict was pronounced by Judge Anju Meera Birla.

If the convict, Sujith alias Chakkara, a resident of Poongulam, Thiruvallam, fails to pay the amount, he shall serve an additional term of 1.3 years. The penalty amount will be given to the survivor.

According to the prosecution, the abuse began on 6 September 2021, when Sujith allegedly threatened the girl, entered her room, and sexually assaulted her. He then stayed in the room for eight days, during which he continued the abuse. The girl did not report the incidents initially, as Sujith had promised to marry her.

On 21 September, the accused entered the minor’s father's house in Nemom. Her father confronted Sujith and handed him over to the police.

While out on bail in the same case, Sujith abducted the girl and took her to a lodge in Varkala, where he abused her again. A separate trial related to that incident has also concluded. Special Public Prosecutor R S Vijay Mohan appeared for the prosecution. The prosecution presented 27 witnesses and submitted 36 documents. The case was investigated by Fort Assistant Commissioner S Shaji and Sub-Inspector B Jaya.
