Karinthalam: The decades-long wait for title deeds by 13 families at Choyyamkodu in the Kinanoor-Karinthalam panchayat in Kasaragod is finally nearing a resolution.
These families were allotted land and houses 35 years ago under the Rajiv Gandhi One Million Housing Scheme. However, the properties remained without legal title deeds all these years. Now, thanks to the Pattaya Mission initiative spearheaded by District Collector K E Imbashekhar, the long-pending issue is close to being resolved.
Following instructions from P V Murali, the Tehsildar of Vellarikkundu Taluk, Kinanoor Village Officer R Madhusoodhanan and his team have initiated the process to issue the long-overdue title deeds. Earlier applications by these families had been rejected on the grounds that the land was in the possession of the panchayat. However, upon verification of documents, the Village Officer confirmed that the land was never formally held by the panchayat and subsequently submitted a recommendation for issuing the deeds.
The Village Officer has now confirmed that the procedures are in the final stages and the title deeds are expected to be distributed during a title deed fair scheduled for next month.
