Malappuram: A 64-year-old man was electrocuted on Saturday after accidentally touching a high-voltage power line while on the terrace of a neighbouring house in Manjeri.
The deceased, Kunjimuhammed of Karakkadan, Collegekunnu, had climbed onto the terrace around 11 am to cut jackfruit leaves for his goat. While trimming the branches with an iron sickle, the tool came into contact with an overhead live wire, resulting in a fatal shock. His daughter, Jamshina, who rushed to help him, also suffered an electric shock but escaped with minor injuries.
Neighbours acted swiftly, using a plastic chair to dislodge the sickle from the power line. Kunjimuhammed was rushed to the Medical College Hospital in Manjeri, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Manjeri Police conducted the inquest, and after a post-mortem at the medical college, the body was handed over to the family. He was laid to rest at Central Juma Masjid on Saturday evening.
Kunjimuhammed is survived by his wife Mymoona, daughters Noushabi and Jamshina, and sons-in-law Musthafa and Mansoor.
