Kasaragod: Roy Joseph (48), a building owner who had been undergoing treatment after allegedly being pushed from the third floor of an under-construction building, died in the early hours of Wednesday. He passed away around 3.30 am at a private hospital in Mangaluru.

The incident took place on August 3 at around 1.30 pm at a construction site in Moolakandam near Mavunkal in Kanhangad. Roy reportedly suffered serious injuries after being pushed from the third floor by the civil contractor following a dispute related to the construction.

Roy, a native of Parappa in Alakode, Kannur, had been living in Athinhal, Kanhangad, where he ran RJ Aluminium Materials. He was building a new shop at the site where the incident occurred.

According to his wife and others who were present at the time, there had been an argument between Roy and the contractor, Narendra of Pullur, just before the fall. Roy is said to have informed his wife and others that Narendra had pushed him off the building. He was initially taken to a private hospital in Mavunkal but was later shifted to Mangaluru due to the severity of his injuries.

Following the incident, the Hosdurg police had registered a case of attempted murder against Narendra. With Roy’s death, the case will now be revised to murder, police said.

Roy is survived by his wife Jinsey and three children: Nevin, Nidhin, and Nivin. He was the son of the late Joseph and Thresia, and is also survived by his siblings Reji, Dolly, Mini, Beena, and Sonia.

A post-mortem will be conducted at the Pariyaram Government Medical College. The funeral will take place at the church in Parappa, Alakode.
