Kanhangad: The police team investigating the death of a building owner, who fell from his under-construction building, has arrested the building contractor. Shortly after the arrest, the contractor’s only son was found dead in a nearby pond.
The Hosdurg police arrested Pulikkalil Narendran of Pulloor on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with the death of 48-year-old Roy Joseph Vellikkothu, owner of an aluminium fabrication unit.
Immediately after Narendran’s arrest, his 17-year-old son Kashinathan went missing. A search was launched and his body was later recovered from a temple pond in the vicinity.
Roy Joseph had sustained grievous injuries after falling from the third floor of his building under construction at Moolakkandam near Mavunkal on August 3. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru but succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
During the police investigation, it emerged that a dispute had broken out between Roy Joseph and Narendran over the construction work. While Roy’s wife and one of his friends gave statements alleging that Narendran had pushed him from the building, police said no evidence has been found so far to substantiate these claims.
The body of Kashinathan has been kept at the Kanhangad District Hospital. His mother is Renuka.
