Traditional household skills take centre stage at Thrikkakara municipality competitions

Kakkanad: When coconut frond weaving, coconut grating and eerkil (midrib of coconut frond) making became competition items, women vied for the big prize. Men too didn’t shy away from taking part in the competitions that combined household chores and traditional craft.
The competitions held by the Thrikkakara municipality and Krishbhavan celebrated the traditional craft of making value-added products from natural products. People gathered to watch the competitions and encourage the participants.
The municipal chairperson, councillors, Kudumbasree workers, members of Haritha Karma Sena, as well as municipality employees participated in the contests.
Municipal chairperson Radhamani Pillai inaugurated the competitions. Vice chairman TG Dinoop, permanent committee chairman Smitha Sunny, Noushad Pallachi, Suneera Firos, Rasiya Nishad, leader of opposition MK Chandrababu, organising committee chairman Shaji Vazhakala, agriculture officer Shilpa Varkey, and assistant agriculture officer CS Salimon addressed the audience.
The agriculture permanent committee members supplied the coconut fronds and coconuts for the competitions. Besides, a quiz contest related to agriculture and farming was also held.
