Thiruvananthapuram: A wireless set was stolen from a policeman on traffic duty in Thiruvananthapuram city, but the device was later found abandoned several hours later. Vanchiyoor police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
The wireless set, worth ₹50,000, was stolen from a police official on duty at Eanchakkal. The set was with an officer assigned to the Eanchakkal traffic point during night duty. He handed it over to a colleague reporting for the next shift. The officer who took possession of the device placed it in a bag and left it at a nearby shop for safekeeping before proceeding on sector duty.
The theft came to light when the officer returned to the traffic point after duty and discovered the bag missing. A complaint was immediately lodged and, during the subsequent investigation, the bag containing the wireless set was found abandoned on the Eanchakkal Bypass Road, where construction work is in progress.
