Kothamangalam: The police have arrested the parents of Rameez, the key accused in the case related to the suicide of a 23-year-old woman in Kothamangalam. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) nabbed the couple - Raheem and Shareefa - from a lodge in Salem. Both have been booked for abetment of suicide, police said.
The woman reportedly wrote in her suicide note that she was being forced into religious conversion. According to the police, Rameez asked her to end her life when she threatened him with suicide.
Police have named Rameez’s parents as the second and third accused in the case. The couple had gone into hiding after the woman’s death. The SIT nabbed them from Salem after receiving a tip-off on their location. The duo will be taken to Kothamangalam soon. The SIT said Rameez and his parents would be interrogated together.
Apart from the family, Sahad — a common friend of Rameez and the deceased — has also been booked in the case. As per reports, he is currently absconding. Police found that Sahad did not intervene while witnessing the brutal assault on the woman by Rameez.
