Padayappa, a wild tusker, has devastated vegetable farms in Munnar intended for the Onam market.

Munnar: Wild tusker Padayappa destroyed acres of vegetable farm cultivated by the estate workers for the Onam market. Padayappa had been widely destroying the vegetable farms in Chapakad, lower, super and top divisions in Chenduvarai estate in the last two weeks.

Vegetables like beans, carrots and cabbage that were ready for harvest were eaten by the jumbo. The estate workers had done widespread vegetable farming this year to supply fresh vegetables during Onam. However, their hard work was wasted as the vegetables were eaten by Padayappa just a few days before harvest.

Besides the vegetables, Padayappa had also destroyed the plantains in the area. The elephant that came to the area around two weeks ago refuses to leave since it managed to find food lavishly.
