Kottayam Medical College restroom is now open near the cancer block, offering affordable accommodation for patient bystanders.

Kottayam: The newly-built restroom near the cancer block at Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, has started functioning. Facilities available at the restroom include two separate dormitories of 10 beds each for men and women, modern washrooms, doors with sensors and the service of a caretaker.

Even though bystanders of patients admitted to all wards can stay at the restroom, preference will be given to those in the cancer ward. Hospital authorities said that those seeking accommodation should approach the caretaker with the admit book. The housekeeping wing of the hospital has been entrusted with the operations of the restroom. A daily fee of Rs 100 will be charged per person for the stay.

The restroom, having an area of 1,000 square feet, was built by the alumni of the 1985 MBBS batch of the medical college as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the institution. The building was officially inaugurated by Ports, Cooperation and Devaswom Minister V N Vasavan, who represents the Ettumanoor Assembly constituency where the medical college is located, in June this year.
