Iritty: Gothrasree, a farmer producer company, has been launched at the Aralam Farm Rehabilitation Centre to take tribal products to the open market. The company has been constituted under the leadership of the Centre for Research and Development as a follow-up to the project activities implemented under the Tribal Development Fund of NABARD.

The company has 10 tribal community members as its board of directors. As many as 410 people have become stakeholders, each purchasing shares worth ₹1,000. Existing assets of the company include a flour mill operating in the project area, a cashew nut processing unit and stitching units. Plans are also underway for commercial cultivation of poultry for meat, turmeric, sesame and the medicinal herb kurunthotti (flannel weed).

To strengthen sourcing and marketing, two centres have been opened, one at Kottappara in Block 10 and another at Kakkuva in Block 11. Aralam Farm Managing Director S Sujeesh inaugurated the outlet at Kakkuva at a function presided over by Unnathi Moopan (the chief of the tribal settlement).

Farm Administrative Officer Dr P K Nitish Kumar, Directors Kumaran Kotti and K K Mini, CRD Programme Officer E C Shaji, along with Shyla Bharathan and Valsala Mohan, also spoke on the occasion.
