Thiruvananthapuram: The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Thiruvananthapuram Division, on Saturday apprehended three of the four accused in a phone snatching aboard Secunderabad–Thiruvananthapuram Sabari Express near Ernakulam. The passenger’s phone was snatched by individuals standing near the tracks.

Acting on leads, the RPF nabbed the trio from the Pullepady ROB area and recovered the device. This is the third such case cracked by the RPF this month.

Earlier, on August 11, a similar case occurred on Netravati Express near Aluva, when two youths snatched a passenger’s mobile from outside the moving train. CCTV analysis led to the arrest of a 14-year-old on the same day.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Shine (18) and Abhishek (26) on 18 August. Based on their confession, an iPhone 14 Pro and four other mobile phones were seized from a shop at Palarivattom and shop owner Faizal (25) was arrested for receiving stolen property.

He reported the incident at Aluva station, following which six accused were arrested and the stolen items were recovered within 18 hours.
