Palakkad: As protests against Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil continue to escalate, the Kerala government has decided to bar him from attending the organisation committee meeting of the Kerala School Sasthrolsavam.

According to the event notice, Rahul was initially invited to chair the meeting scheduled for August 25 at 3 pm at the Palakkad district panchayat hall. All public representatives, including Alathur MP K Radhakrishnan, are invited to the meeting.

Manorama News reported that Education Minister V Sivankutty instructed officials to exclude the MLA from the programme. The minister is expected to address the media to make an official announcement regarding this on Saturday.

The Sasthrolsavam will be held in Palakkad from November 7 to 10.

This comes a day after Palakkad Municipality requested the MLA to stay away from the inauguration of the municipal bus stand on Friday, citing the possibility of protests at the venue.

Rahul Mamkoottathil resigned as Youth Congress state president earlier this week after being accused of sending obscene messages to women. The controversy erupted when Malayalam actor Rini Ann George alleged that a young politician had sent her obscene messages and invited her to meet at a hotel. Though she did not name Rahul, her statement triggered speculation.

Soon after, writer Honey Bhaskaran alleged that Rahul had initiated a conversation with her on Instagram and later made derogatory remarks about her to others. Screenshots of alleged chats between Rahul and several women also surfaced online, intensifying the row.

Rahul has denied the allegations, calling them fabricated, and said he would pursue legal action. He added that his resignation was intended to shield his party from political attacks.
