Car ride with newlywed sister turns tragic; youth dies in Kottayam road accident

Kottayam: A 34-year-old man died after his car crashed into a building at Kunnumbhagam general hospital stop in Kanjirappally on Friday night.

Two others, a newlywed couple, were injured in the accident, police said on Saturday. The deceased is Keecheril Abhijith, a native of Thamapalackadu. His sister, Athira, and her husband, Deepu Gopalakrishnan, sustained minor injuries.

According to police, Deepu was driving the car while the trio was travelling from Kanjirappally to Ponkunnam. He is currently admitted to Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital, while his wife is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Pala. The accident took place only a day after the couple tied the knot.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined, police said.

CCTV footage of the crash, shown on TV channels, indicates that the car hit the building at high speed.
