Kozhikode: A new case of amoebic meningoencephalitis has been confirmed at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital (MCH). A 10-year-old boy from Malappuram, currently undergoing treatment at here, has tested positive for the brain infection.

The diagnosis was confirmed on Wednesday night by the hospital’s microbiology lab, according to Dr Arun Preeth, Superintendent of the Institute of Maternal and Child Health. He added that the child is currently in stable condition.

However, the District Medical Officer (DMO) of Malappuram stated that she had not received any official communication from Kozhikode MCH regarding the case. "So far, I’ve only heard about it through the media," she said. The DMO also added that the condition of another patient from Malappuram, who was previously diagnosed with the disease, is improving.
