Munnar: Rural bus services of KSRTC in Munnar, which were suspended a month ago due to a dispute between the minister and the MLA, have resumed. The resumption comes after the Transport Minister K B Ganeshkumar’s office intervened following MLA A Raja’s move to raise the issue in the Legislative Assembly. All previously cancelled services restarted from Thursday.
On August 24, authorities had cancelled six services from the Munnar depot to destinations including Sooryanelli, Koviloor and Silent Valley. The decision followed a disagreement between the minister and the MLA over the use of KSRTC funds.
The funds were intended for constructing a mini shopping complex on land earmarked for a new building funded by the MLA’s development fund at the old Munnar depot. National Highway authorities and the local panchayat had also issued stop memos for the construction.
The department instructed senior officials to direct the depot authorities to suspend rural services, citing allegations that the stop memo was influenced by local political leadership.
