Kochi: The Thrikkakara Police on Sunday arrested two men in Kalamassery for issuing fake medical certificates to individuals recruited by companies in India and abroad. The accused, Chandrabose (55) of Perumbavoor, and Shibi Jose (51) of Poonithura, are partners of a private laboratory.

The scam, which had been running for years, came to light after a former associate professor at Palakkad Medical College found that medical certificates had been issued in his name. A probe led by Thrikkakara  ACP Shiju P S revealed that the duo issued certificates without conducting the mandatory health check-ups in the presence of a registered doctor.

The lab had also secured contracts from several companies in India and abroad for the medical screening of new recruits. During the raid, police also seized fake seals and fabricated medical certificates from the premises. The accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
