College students arrange trip, elderly care home inmates enjoy springtime of life again

Kattappana: As many as 30 elderly residents of Alphonsa Bhavan old age home were thrilled as they immersed themselves in the scintillating views and the cool weather of Ramakkalmedu tourist centre. They felt younger and energetic as they laughed and danced with the college students who accompanied them.
Their eyes glimmered, and their hearts were filled with joy as they experienced new sights. For them, it was an unforgettable day filled with happiness, excitement and unique experiences.
The NSS unit of Labbakkada JPM Arts and Science College decided to conduct a one-day leisure trip for the residents of the Alphonsa Bhavan as part of the NSS day celebrations.
The program was conducted to hold the elderly closer so that they wouldn’t feel lonely in their old age, to fight against the deplorable culture of abandoning the elderly when their employability decreases, to attain the ability to seek legal recourse against children and grandchildren who abandon elderly people and to ensure the safety and well-being of people during their old age.
The event was inaugurated by principal, V Johnson. Manager Fr. Johnson Mundiyath, vice principal Fr. Prince Thomas, bursar Fr. Charles Thoppil, program officers Tiji Tom and Soniya James spoke at the event. Meanwhile, the program was led by program officers Monisha C Vijayan, Rahul George and Vishnu Sajan.
